Is procrastination a good thing?
why do we do it
LET’S GROW
Before we get started, come check out the besties section of the newsletter. I make videos talking to you directly each week!
Tell me if you have been in this position before. You are sitting down knowing that you have something that has a deadline or needs to be done, but you just can't get your body going for some reason.

Then you start beating yourself up because you aren't holding up your end of the bargain. Other people think you are just wasting their time. It's just always felt like something else is going on here and that's because something else is going on. So what exactly is the reason behind procrastination?
Procrastination is a self-protection mechanism.
We delay tasks when they trigger discomfort, fear of failure, fear of judgment, perfectionism, or overwhelm.
It’s often tied to anxiety, fear of rejection, or imposter syndrome. We tell ourselves, “I’ll do it later,” not because we don’t want success, but because we fear what success or failure might bring.
For our neurodivergent friends, especially those with ADHD, I have heard (but not verified) that often we procrastinate to give ourselves an adrenaline rush to supplement the lack of dopamine in our brains. I'm not sure if it's true, but it sounds interesting and worth exploring.
Why We Keep Falling Into It:
Perfectionism traps you in overthinking
Fear of failure makes you avoid starting
Overwhelm convinces you it’s “too much”
Low energy or burnout makes every task feel impossible
How to Break Free From Procrastination
Name the Fear
Before you blame yourself, ask: What am I actually afraid of? Is it failure? Judgment? Not being good enough? This will help you come back into logic.
Use Time Limits, Not To-Do Lists
Set a timer for 10–15 minutes. Work until it goes off. This shifts your focus from finishing a task to simply starting it. I would Google the Pomodoro Technique!
Drop the “All or Nothing” Trap
Perfectionism kills action. Done is always better than perfect. I cannot tell you how many times I have been stuck with it “analysis paralysis” is a real thing. Learn by doing!

Procrastination isn’t about laziness it’s about fear, avoidance, and perfectionism. And once you see it for what it is, you take its power away.
You don’t need more willpower.
You need more grace… and the guts to start messy.
Respond to this and tell me which thing you have been putting off. I will give you some motivation. Also, if you want more direct communication, sign up for the besties! It supports this content, and we can do a deeper dive!
