Is it too late to start over?

LET’S GROW

Last week I made a video talking about the daunting idea of starting over later in life. I had felt so alone in that feeling, until I saw an outpouring of responses telling me they felt the same way. Some were going through a divorce, some hated their job, some (me) are finally starting to heal and are changing as a person. The point being,

It is very common to start over. You are not alone.

The worst part for me is the mindset surrounding this concept, so let’s go over one of the most common thoughts that keep us from changing.

It’s too late to start over

We have no idea how many years we have on this earth. Let’s live however many years we have left in abundance rather than mediocrity. Plenty of people found success later in life:

  • Ray Croc found success with McDonald’s at 51

  • Stan Lee wrote his first successful comic at 39

  • Vera Wang showcased her first gown at 40

If they hadn’t taken a leap, they wouldn’t be where they are. You can take that leap too.

One person commented about the term MAMA and I looked it up. It’s an acronym for Moratorium - Achievement - Moratorium - Achievement.

Moratorium - This is where someone is undergoing a crisis in their commitment to one identity,  while exploring the possibility of moving to a new one.

Achievement - Is when you commit to the identity that works best for you.

According to research, on average, people go through this process three times in their life. I am currently on my third…which one are you on?
