This week was rough but gratitude got me through

gratitude helped stop the spiral

LET’S GROW

It's not happiness that makes you grateful. It’s gratefulness that makes you happy.

I didn’t plan this post to coincide with Thanksgiving in the US, but it worked out that way, which is wonderful. Recently, I woke up not feeling the best about myself. Ever have one of those days where there is just an inexplicable feeling of ick? At that moment, I had a choice. I could continue to commit to that feeling or I could interrupt it before it takes over.

Allowing that feeling to take over in that moment would have been dangerous, because it’s easier to stay in that for the day… which turns into the week, etc. WE have control over that spiral. How? Gratitude.

Gratitude is “the quality of being thankful and the readiness to show appreciation and return kindness.”

Gratitude stops my negative spiral because it improves the world around me, and that, in turn, makes me feel good. Everybody wins

When you express gratitude, it makes you think about the good things in your life, shifting you from the negative to the positive. Now you start to fill with good feelings and you attract more positive people. Then, you start to express this gratitude to the people in your life. This solidifies and empowers your connections with them.

Having those solid connections is NEEDED for our well-being. Now, imagine you do this as a daily practice. Every day, shifting from the negative to the positive and using that to enrich the world around you. What a wonderful life.

The main point here is even if it doesn’t feel like it, you are the one in control. Life sucks and Life is wonderful –it’s up to you where you focus.

So, friends, respond to this email and tell me things you are grateful for. Go out there and be a beacon. Start from within and then shine for others. For those who celebrate, Happy Thanksgiving.

ON PERSONAL NOTE

I thought I would share some photos of the things I am grateful for and why. If you feel comfortable feel free to send some back!

Family - I have such an incredible family. I would not be where I am in life without the support they have given me.

Clark - I lost my first dog tragically and never thought I would have another dog. Clark is the best snuggler and got me through lockdown as a consistent companion

Chocolate Cake - Specifically Portillo’s chocolate cake. It has been tradition for years to have a slice every birthday. I have even flown to get some cake on my birthday. If you know, you know.

Mountains - Every time I see a mountain, I want to cry. I am not sure why that is, but my peaceful place is in the mountains.

Community - Special shout out to my discord community on this one. Even when I am down, I know I have people who will pick me up. Movie nights every Monday are my favorite. You all here as a community of growth-minded people means more to me than you know.
