Which one of these are you?

LET’S GROW

First I want to say that I have been doing really well with the screen time conversation. My time hasn’t really gone down much, but HOW I spend my time has massively changed, and I feel so much better for it.

Here is where I am really struggling. How do I stay informed of all of the awful things going on in the world right now? To be clear, just so you know where I fall: Fuck ICE, fuck Trump. I am sure that will clear some of you out, but that is ok, and I genuinely wish you the best. As someone who is working so hard to regulate his nervous system, how do I stay informed but still function as a human?

Confused The Office GIF

When I thought about it, if you are asking that question, I am proud of you. One of the biggest issues with the media now is CONSTANTLY BOMBARDING us with the same info. These platforms have a vested interest in keeping your attention, and they do so by jacking up your nervous system with the same recycled information.

Often when I am stressing about something, taking action really helps. This is true in activism as well. However, not everyone can be in the streets for various reasons. Bill Moyer created 4 roles of social activism. Click here to see a further breakdown, but see which one fits you.

The Citizen (Helper/Nurturer)

Purpose: Establishes legitimacy for the movement in the eyes of the public.
Methods: Promotes positive values, supports community needs, and ensures the movement acts responsibly.
Goal: To gain trust and show that the movement acts for the common good.

The Rebel (Activator/Truth Teller)

Purpose: Highlights the gap between societal ideals and reality, forcing issues onto the public agenda.
Methods: Uses nonviolent direct action, protests, and civil disobedience.
Goal: To challenge existing, unjust power structures and provoke public discourse.

The Reformer (Advocate/Policy Changer)

Purpose: Works within the system to create, change, or enforce policies.
Methods: Lobbying, legal actions, and negotiating with powerholders.
Goal: To turn movement demands into concrete, structural, or legal changes.

The Change Agent (Organizer/Educator)

Purpose: Mobilizes, educates, and organizes the public to support the cause.
Methods: Grassroots organizing, training, and building coalitions.
Goal: To build a mass-based movement that sustains long-term, systemic change.

Would love to hear which one fits you. The final takeaway I would like to impart on you is,

Let rest be part of the movement, if you are burnt out or sick, you will not be very effective. No one can battle all of the time, and this is going to be a marathon, not a sprint. Please take care of yourselves.

Think of it this way: you taking time for yourself is laying the solid foundation you need to launch off of. You are not a bad person for taking a break. You got this.

Affirmations

I am allowed to stay informed without sacrificing my nervous system.

  • Rest is not disengagement — it is preparation.

  • I do not need to carry the entire world to be a good person.

  • My way of contributing is valid, even when it looks different from others.

  • Taking breaks makes me more effective, not less committed.

  • I can care deeply and still choose peace.

  • I trust myself to know when to act and when to rest.

  • I am not selfish for protecting my mental and emotional health.

  • Small, sustainable actions matter more than constant urgency.

  • I am part of the movement simply by continuing to show up as myself.
