LET’S GROW

In recent newsletters, I have spoken about self-esteem, how it is affected by emotionally immature parents, and how it contributes to burnout. (link when available) Let’s dive into what self-esteem is and how we build it.

Self-esteem is how we value and perceive ourselves. It's based on our opinions and beliefs about ourselves.

Notice how nothing in this definition references things that are outside of ourselves. This is why basing your self-esteem on external validation is a dangerous thing. Whether it be praise from friends, money and material things, or feedback from our bosses, if self-esteem comes from outside of ourselves, then our sense of worth can be taken away at any time. Your light needs to come from within.
